Last Day, Last Month, Year End
The passing of the baton, one year to the next, my mind driven to reflection. What has been discovered? What new paths explored? Which direction next?
No winds this day, only a whistle of tiny waves on outside reef, and an astonishing blanket of sand where just days before, rocks had created an unwalkable path. How the shoreline changes – like our bodies, our thoughts, our relationships.
We are so often sure – only to be reminded that nothing is permanent, that we are mere blips on a long radarscope that includes dinosaurs who vanished, a fate which may similarly await us.
I ponder miracles. Fingers that type. A sleeping dog who gifts me with unconditional love. Friendships long and short that I cherish. The rise of sun and moon and the giggle of children on the schoolyard playground.
This lovely consciousness that we experience as life. I open my heart to the changed pages in the calendar, peer forward into an unknown tomorrow, and reach for joy.
